From A College Admissions Perspective, March Also Sucks

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! March blows. Seriously. College admissions professional Bruce Vinik says so. He says that March is the longest month because students are waiting for their envelopes to come back from school. It's really groundbreaking stuff. We already knew March sucked because it's just, well, soggy. Plus, the weather can't decide it it wants to be warm or cold, so chances are you're either stuck wearing a jacket in 65 degree weather and sweating like a wildebeest or wearing some kind of long sleeve tee-shirt in 35 degree weather and freezing your royal rastafarian nay-nays off.

I mean, if it weren't for the NCAA College Basketball tournament giving everyone and their grandmother a socially-acceptable gambling-interest in the nation's most exciting sporting event, and St. Patrick's day giving everyone and their grandmother a socially-acceptable reason to tap a keg before 9 am March would be the lousiest month on the calendar. Besides February. February really sucks.

Still, I'd encourage you to enjoy Vilnik's article because amidst his thoroughly unoriginal stance on the anticipation of waiting for admissions notices to come there's also his even-more-thoroughly unoriginal stance on how it doesn't matter where you go to school it just matters what you do there. And coming from someone who gets paid to help you get into particular schools, that one's got a heaping side order of irony.

Hey man, long time reader, second time contributor. I just wanted to say that, like, I think that your article, well written as it may be, is kind of ethnocentric. The reason that I say this is because like, March is really a relative thing. I mean, first of all, first of all, what if you and a bunch of your friends have birthdays in March. You guys could totally hang out about that, and like, be poets of the zodiac and stuff. Also, though, also, I'm from LA, and March in LA is really pretty. I mean, it's not as off the charts as like, say, January or like, October, but March is pretty bomb. In no way would I describe it as being soggy. In fact in LA, where I'm from, I wouldn't describe any months as being soggy. Pretty much all the months are sunny. Yeah, the weather in LA is pretty fantastic. Except, like, in LA, we have this thing that we call June Gloom, and we call it that because, in LA, in June, it's like really gray and stuff, I guess because of the smog, or the the clouds are attracted there by the magnetism of the sun because of its distance from the earth in that particular month. June. In LA.
