Extra Curricular Activities Revisted
So a couple weeks ago, I did a blog post about extra curricular activities, which are a hot-button topic when it comes to applying to colleges.
Now Sally Rubenstone who writes the "Ask the Dean" column for College Confidential is posing this question to their online community, asking people if they did certain extra-curricular activities simply for the purpose of getting into college and, if so, how they felt about it. The responses seem honest and interesting.
My stance, of course, has never been to try new things simply to get into college, that would be dishonest and annoying. Instead, as I clearly outlined here, I support maximizing the credit you get for the stuff you already do. If there was a video game club at my high school, there could definitely be a club for Cheetoe afficionados or online porn enthusiasts. Plus embellishing otherwise unspectacular activities is a much more valuable life skill than almost anything else you'll learn in high school.
